Tayyibah Baz

"If the modern world promotes weakness in faith, then we must use our Creativity to strengthen the Ummah."

Tayyibah Baz (b. 2002, Bradford) is a contemporary watercolour artist, curator, speaker, and workshop facilitator working under the brand Tayyibah Baz The Artisan. Her practice draws on the narratives of the Quran and Sunnah, treating every composition, talk, and workshop as an act of remembrance rather than self-expression. She regards her artistic ability as an amanah, an entrusted gift to be used in service of the Ummah, and researches the origin and authenticity of every Quranic and Hadith reference before it reaches the canvas.

Alongside her studio practice, she delivers talks and workshops for organisations and communities, exploring the intersection of Islamic knowledge and creative practice. She is the founder of Itqan Exhibitions, a curatorial platform dedicated to presenting Muslim artists with rigour and intentionality. Islam Through My Eyes is its first edition. Rooted in a deep love of learning, she is currently completing an ijazah in Quran recitation, a pursuit that deepens her relationship with the very texts her paintings draw from.

In Islam Through My Eyes she presents two works from her Fruit Series. Sweet as a Citron draws on a hadith comparing the believer who recites and acts upon the Quran to a citron, sweet in both taste and smell. The Fruits of Provision references the story of Jesus, son of Mary, asking Allah for a table spread from heaven, bringing together six fruits named in the Quran as a reflection on divine generosity and the delicacies of Paradise.
